Why a product record and a batch record are different

A catalog product can remain available over time while the batches supplied under that product name change. This is why a product record and a batch record serve different purposes. The catalog identifies the commercial item and its listed format. A batch document describes the sample or lot named in that document, with the tests and results actually reported there. Start a document review by matching identifiers. The product name or code helps establish the connection, but a matching name alone may not be enough where several variants or batches exist. Look for the batch reference, sample description and other identifying details on the record. Keep the report pages together so the context remains visible. Read the methods and results as parts of the same record. Different measurements answer different questions about a sample. An analytical result should not be converted into a claim about a property that the report does not address. A prominent number may be easy to notice, but the surrounding text and any notes explain what that number represents. The website's quality library displays original pages as images. This makes it possible to examine the document without replacing it with a rewritten summary. When more than one batch is represented, the records remain separately identified. A report from an earlier batch should not silently become the report for every later delivery. Company information is another layer.
